A side table can look right in a photograph and still feel awkward beside your chair. Before choosing one, check the height, footprint and reach in the spot where it will actually live.
Start with what you want to put on it
A place for one book needs less surface than a table holding a lamp, drink and glasses. Set those objects together on an existing surface and notice how much space you use. If you want storage underneath, allow room to reach it too.
Measure the chair and the room
Measure from the floor to the chair arm, then compare that with the listed tabletop height. A top near the arm height is a useful starting point to try, but the best position depends on the chair and how you sit. Test the height with a stable surface you already have before committing.
Record the chair’s outside width and the available space beside it. For a round table, compare the full diameter with the gap. For a rectangular table, check both width and depth. Notice whether the legs or base extend beyond the top.
Mark the footprint
Lay out a piece of cardboard or paper matching the listed tabletop dimensions. Keep it flat so you can judge the space without adding an obstacle. If you use tape to outline it, choose tape appropriate for the floor and follow its removal instructions.
Check doors, drawers and nearby furniture. If the chair swivels or reclines, compare the table position with that movement. A table that fits when everything is still may be in the way when the chair moves.
Try the reach from the seat
Sit as you normally would and test where your hand naturally reaches. Think about getting a book, placing glasses down and standing up again. Ask anyone else who uses the chair to try the arrangement, too.
Leave the route through the room usable. If the table makes the corner difficult to walk around, compare a smaller footprint or another position rather than squeezing it into the original plan.
Keep a small measurement note
Chair-arm height: ____
Available width and depth: ____
Proposed tabletop height: ____
Top and base dimensions: ____
Chair movement and walking route checked: ____
Then compare the actual listing
Check the manufacturer’s dimensions, material, weight limit and assembly details for the selected option. The same listing may have several sizes or finishes; confirm the specific variant before buying.
The chair-corner collection includes a linked side-table option and the other pieces used or suggested for that corner. Use your measurements to decide whether any of them suit your room. The generic illustration below is not a photograph of that table or chair.
